What size of boat I need?

Hello Everyone,

We want to retire to the Greek island Rhodes in a few years and I'm looking to buy a boat there. What we wish to do is some casual fishing from the back of the boat (lifelong dream of mine) and we want to explore the nearby islands lets say in a 100-150 Km radius.
Not interested in sailing, definitely looking to pick up a yacht of some sort.
I need room for 4-6 people, and if someone could suggest what is the minimal size requirement to do these sort of inter-island cruises?

We are still early in the project and planning things.

Would be something like this adequate?

Thank you to anyone in advance who takes time to reply.

I am surprised no one answered your question. I suggest you check out the trawler forum which is not only for trawlers but many differing styled boats. The boat link you provided would work for what you want but since time is on your side before making a decision, get some boat time in under your belt, even if it entails skippered charter boats.

You can fish from most powered boats but if the vessel is on the larger size, a kicker motor will best be employed while fishing if your intended style of fishing is trolling.

And if you are sleeping 4-6, is it for one or two nights or a week or two?

Re: What size of boat I need?

Thank you all for taking time to reply.
I'm sorry if I haven't expressed myself clearly, second language and also I'm really new to the topic..

My wife and I we wish to pretty much live onboard during the summer months with our little one (he will be 6-ish by the time we get there) and an adult son.

The boat needs to be large enough for that plus we expect 2 possible guests visiting for a week from time to time. The point is having enough room to cater for for all this, enough food etc.

Also, to be adequate to go around the Dodecanese, visiting nearby islands (maybe a bit of Turkey) safely.

By fishing I meant to do an hour or two on a daily basis, if there's a catch good - lunch solved - if not, good also: I had my relaxation

Thank you all again for your answers, they mean a lot to me.

We are 2 people and a cat that live aboard a 60 fter permanently cruising.
Personally, I wouldn't want anything smaller and would happily go 5 ft bigger again.

Stay around 50 feet so you can fit everywhere .
For Greece I would recommend even smaller

Thank you for your input, would you recommend a 50+ as a first boat tho?

Currently we are amazed by space available on the Leopard 47 Cats
Also considering Swift Trawlers as we don't want to go fast.
We are visiting Rhodes this year again and planning on checking out a few cruisers this summer in person too: Princess, Fairlane, Azimut, Sea Ray... as we see by pictures 46-50 foot boots have 3 cabins.

If I drive a cruiser with around 6-10kn will it have similar fuel economy as a trawler?

Sorry if the questions are dumb, it is really difficult to get information as we are a landlocked country so noone around to ask in person
