Just supposing I had my dream ship, >180' and @ 1000t.

What training courses would I have to go on, and what qualifications would I need to keep the insurance shysters happy?

If you are the owner operator that is one thing, if you are going to hire a captain that is another, if you are commercial or private or charter yacht that is another also. you need to give more details,,,

As owner, I would hire a suitable Captain and crew. After all, one could not manage without crew and the purpose of owning a Gin palace, is to concentrate on partying and enjoying ones self, not working on the Bridge.

But, I also believe its wise to know what your crew should know. I wouldnt ask an employee to do something which I couldnt or wouldnt do myself.

To answer your question in the first instance, what qualifications would I be looking for in a Captain and first officer to opperate my dream boat in both a private and charter capacity?

I think these qualifications vary depending upon where that shire with the sunny side of the hill is located or where that third wave outside the seawall is located.

If a private yacht,,, rules or different but you are getting up into tonnage so commercial rules MAY apply.

might want to do a little reading on the license types at the below like.

also depends on what type of flag it is flying. With the classes that a captain and crew have to take, unless you took them also it would be hard to know what they know.

If the owner,,,might want to hire young bodybuilder type crew and enjoy the scenery and let the captain drive and you enjoy.

Global rules apply. They have to be applicable to all countries and situations.

As far as I'm aware as long as you do not carry passangers or cargo for reward there is no limit. The Uk MCA has in effect brought in standards for manning super yachts but they only mandatorily apply for their registry, the industry has accepted them in general but they are not law.

When I mean no limit I mean no international agreed limit. Many countries has individual restrictions.
