Wanted:Bluewater high powered Narrowboat
Yeah, I know. But I'm considering changing from the sea to a voyage around the interior of the 2000+ miles of navigable canals and rivers.
3mph standard speed, pull up more or less where you want... up to 14 days in one spot...
Pubs towns restaurants, Diesel and solar, solid fuel...
Why? I counted up what it has cost me for the past 5 years boating. That was it all took.
This the type of vessel ~Im looking at
I want a vessel to do seminars

Re: Wanted:Bluewater high powered Narrowboat
No way will you find a Blue Water canal boat.. you can find Estuary/River cruisers but then you will be restricted by beam and air draft in the canal system unless you keep it small and camper style.
Yes canal boats do occasionally cross the Channel but it is done on the rare occasions when neaps and mirror calms coincide.
Sorry Weavis.. your looking for Unicorns..

LOL Phil...
It was tongue in cheek...
Just one of those quirky English headlines...
I think about £40K will get a good vessel. Id look at widebeams, however, where I want to go the locks do 60 foot max on an angle and 6 foot 10 inch width.
A different world.

True.. but often beautiful, peaceful and close to nature.
Why not skip the engine and buy a Shire, and 'Walk' the bridges old school.. :

Narrowboats are out of this world. I watch and salivate. I think cruising one for a time would be an outstanding adventure.
Will follow this thread as I am interested to hear what you get.
Good luck,
(envy)

Re: Wanted:Bluewater high powered Narrowboat
This will be a year-long project to set up. Licences for business and working with other academic faculties will ensure that..
Any video I post on here are of boats that were for sale and now have been purchased, and are used to demonstrate what I'm looking for and the differences in the interior layout.
This has a narrow stern/steering position. I prefer a cruiser stern, one in which a few people can join the tiller for conversations etc
but interesting to see regardless

Re: Wanted:Bluewater high powered Narrowboat
I read years ago a book called " The Unlikely Voyage of Jack de Crow". The author took his boat for a couple hundred miles on canals through England, then when he got to the Thames, decided to cross the English Channel as an end to his voyage. But then he decided to try some French channels. He eventually went all the way to the Black Sea, via canals and the Danube. It was sort of a bare bones boat to be sure, but his budget was small.

Wanted:Bluewater high powered Narrowboat
I don’t know much about them, but just looking at the one video, it seems that they are predicated on primarily not moving much, and spending time mostly at dock with external power?
I say that as standing to steer all day long would be well more than tiring, and everything electric seemed to be 220, and the heating system seemed to be the same as in a house, and I assume powered by a 220V / gas water heater system? 220V to run the pump and control, gas for heat.
When we lived in Germany I was enamored by the system that heated the house and water, it was one system, one on demand “boiler” both heated the house and when required heated water for domestic use. I assume the same here?
Those dual I think he said 30 kg gas bottles are used for something, I’m thinking heat?
Do they have bow thrusters? Holding tanks?

Bow thrusters no, holding tanks yes.. as for the 220v, remember that many of these boats, like sailboats lay up in marinas or bankside moorings.
Quite a few have solid fuel or oil fired central heating so can an do stay independent of services for a long time with ample tankage these boats can carry.

A lot of the new narrowboats have bow thrusters now...
I prefer cassette toilets. Emptying points everywhere.
Solar, gas heating cooking or inverters...
same as other boats.

That really is quite a scary aqueduct and yes I was stood on the opposite side to the drop when we crossed it in April.
