Viking 44

Now I'm planning to buy a Viking 44 (1988) with an aft cabin and Detroit diesels (non turbo charged)
Does anyone know anything about these boats and the motors?

My brother in law has that boat, those motors. 671 Detroits....send me your e-mail addy, and I will discuss it with him over dinner tonight, he and his lovely wife are coming over for dinner. I can then forward him your e-mail if he ok's it, and I am sure that he is a wealth of info, having owned the boat for quite some time.

I have been on the boat a few times, lovely, grand boat. He cruises at 18 knots, or did last time we were out for the weekend. Very roomy, beautiful boat. He has done quite a bit of the Great Lakes, North Channel, Lakes Ontario, Erie, St. Clair, Huron...been all over.

Re: Viking 44

I've not ever made that run Ed, in fact....just bought our sailboat this year. I have been around boats all my life, just not sailboats larger than an 18 foot drop keel daysailer. Are you going to hire someone, or looking for someone with knowledge to tag along?

Mark will be here around 6:00, I'll talk to him about your request, I'm pretty sure that he will get back to you.

If you click on my user name, you should be able to navigate to the section that allows you to p.m. others.

I see you are from Toronto...we're just 3.5 hours west down the 401....Windsor/Amherstburg area.

That's funny I'm from Windsor. Just spent a weekend on Pelee Island.
I've been sailing on lake ontario for 12 years. Now we want a boat to live on so going bigger.

It's a small world Ed....for some reason your name is familiar to me. I forwarded your e-mail addy to Mark, he is going to contact you, probably tomorrow. He is very, very familiar with the Viking 44, aft cabin, twin 671 Detroit diesels. I'm sure that you will glean some very valuable information from him. I know that he is very pleased with the boat, he has a reputable mechanic who knows the engines very well, and so on. Good luck with the purchase!

Well we ended up buying the 44 Viking. It is a beautiful boat and has been very well maintained.

Good for you Ed! Now you have all winter to plan your return voyage home? Should be an awful lot of fun.

That's a great boat, you are going to have lots of enjoyment with it.
