Trouble with holding tank odor while underway

We recently had our master head plumbed for fresh water intake. Now we experience a septic smell when the boat is underway. There are no odors when docked. Any ideas as to what could cause this??

Check your overboard vent. You may want to install a dorade.

A somewhat directional air vent. Point it forward air flows in point it aft, air is pulled out.
Traditionally it's a type of air vent using a box that allows water to enter the vent without getting in your boat.

Essentially, I believe the other poster is suggesting you make sure the air movement underway pulls the gas from the tank instead of adding pressure.
A good thorough clean of the tank could help too.

it might be an idea to fit an inline charcoal filter on the vent pipe,i belive west marine sells ones specifically for eliminating odours on holding tanks

use odorlos in your holding tank to neutralize the odors...just because you went to fresh water usage doesnt mean the holding tank doesnt need enzymes to neutralize odors.....might want to change out your vent system to make it work--mebbe wasps made nests in it or some such---vent hoses do require maintenance, as well as the rest of it all.

Re: Trouble with holding tank odor while underway

Thanks for all the solutions. We've asked the boat manager to check the vents and have requested the odorlos. Very helpful. I'm new to this site. It's been great! D

Probably, as noted, a problem with air supply. We use products from Young Enterprises LLC and have NO holding tank odors. This stuff really, really works.
