Toilet paper and head clog

This newbie was at West Marine and saw "special" toilet paper that cost a lot more but are not going to cog your komo in the head.
Is this truly necessary or is it a gimmick to get the ignorant like myself spend more money on the boat?

The standard protocol for almost all of us is...

If you didn't eat it or drink it, it doesn't go in the head... toilet paper included...

Be kind to your 'Head' and the environment... Wipe it and Bag it...
Folks manage to clog shoreside toilets with pipes 10X larger with the amount they use.. so the skinny pipes on board are gonna struggle.

To answer your direct question, marine and RV TP is definitely intended to breakdown faster then "average household"... but there are some that break down just as well...

Yeah do a simple test of the different tp. Some will dissolve in 20 seconds in a bucket, others don't at all, like Kleenex tissues turn into a soggy ball. I think single ply is usually best.

We use single ply purchased anywhere. Never had a problem.

Except for cleaning a clogged holding tank I don't think anything on a boat is nastier than bagging TP. Been putting the paper down the head for 8 years and never had a clog and use the standard single ply TP.

Not yet. It's up and running but will experiment with different antenna locations before attempting to run it up the mast I think.
Back to the poo...yes I agree bags of dunny paper are a pretty gross idea. I did replace a head outlet hose a few months ago that was almost totally blocked with crud after 2 years use, but I don't think it had anything to do with flushing paper, and the paper still managed to flush through the 1/2" diameter that was left.

Smart idea... bungee/zip tie city for a few trials...

Get on the right diet and 3 sheets/dump is all you bag..

I also will not live in the same space as a bag of used TP!! We've never had a clog from the single ply stuff either.

Every time I hear of or think of bagged TP, all that conjures up is the smell of the men's restroom in Truck stop in south Texas.

LOL... spend a lot of time at sea in the loo huh..??
Mind.. seeing the state many leave marina toilets in around the world I can understand the reluctance of many.. it demo's their toilet habits on board.
However its remarkably un-smelly once your 'Fresh' gasses have aired and a little flip lid bin under the sink with a 'Fresh Pine' bin liner works great.
No smells in my head.. since I changed the pipes..

you with squeamish guts and dislike of paper in a bag or separate container will hate cruising mexico and other areas wherein the septic system doesnt handle paper well.
it is hy larry us how some will keep a big sack of steaming poop in boat but not paper in a bag. you are so funny.
paper in head makes papier mache. my hoses were awesome for 10 yrs then some obnoxious jerko flushed paper for 6 months and totally blocked the hoses, not just one time, but 2.
i use normal doesnt melt in your hands 2 ply paper. placed into a bag, it is fine.
you are not supposed to stuff your face into the bag, only the paper ye use to wipe your self with.
