Really, the upper 1% club, giving away something that cost them virtually nothing, when they could have given each worker a top of the line iPhone 5, 27" Mac, anything they make. iPod mini. Good grief.

I am a fan of apple products, this post is done on an iPad, but come on. What a slap in the face.

They could have given them nothing as well, after all they received a wage for doing a job, a gift is not part of the contract.

Think themselves lucky they got anything.

A very close UNIX actually. OSX is largely based on BSD and runs much of the available *NIX software.

I actually like it a bit. It is different. Knowing Jobs obsession to detail and willingness to try something new, I am sure this boat has some very interesting approaches. While I would probably have more curves on my boat, I do appreciate the windows that don't let sun into the cabin. The vertical sides also do allow for more useful space inside. While I don't think all of it is pretty (though much of it is), I do see a certain practicality in the design. My father used to tell me as he was building a new house that an entryway or island in the kitchen would be someone that someone liked on the surface, but would end up hating if not consciously, then at least subconsciously every time they stepped around it. I imagine this boat has very few annoying things to step around and will be a fine boat for his family to get away on.

Having worked building boats for Paul Allen and Tom Alberg, I seriously doubt that those were the only perks he ever threw the crew. Whenever I have been involved in a large build like this, the owner has been very generous throughout the process. Tom in particular treated the crew like family, giving us all a turkey on Thanksgiving or a roast at Christmas, always with some nice wine from one of his wineries. We also got lots of T-shirts associated with the build, hats, overalls, and the like. Just the opportunity to work on a project like that is no small thing either, it does wonders for your resume and your toolbox of skills. These guys know the people building their very expensive project have something they want and can't get elsewhere. Wealthy succesful people tend to be very good at getting the best out of people when they really want to. They don't do that by treating them poorly IME.

I think there was too much owners input into this
I have seen it often when the people that are the most successful ,type A personalities micro-manage every little detail
The bridge/wheelhouse, is to me as described "minimalist"
It looks like a college cafeteria , or perhaps a budget retail computer store
I have run a few yachts and the standard is built-in Nauticomp ,or equivalent marine monitors
They cost 3x as much ($6,000+)as those home monitors ,but your wheelhouse installation doesn't look like a best-buy technician did the work

And look at those seats...sure the chrome looks nice, but I would rather have the comfortable Stidd seats which are common these days

If this thing ever changes hands I would bet that changes will be made

Might be confusing, having to first press "weigh anchor" for everything else you want to access.

The sails will suddenly turn blue and the boat instantly round up head to wind and refuse all inputs at random inconvenient moments. If this happens, the only recourse is to strike all sail and lower the mast, blindfold and with your hands tied.

Every time you appear on deck you will be pestered by various dodgy strangers telling you your stuff is obsolete and unsafe.

Rafting up to other "Winboats" may result in their rats and gremlins secretly transferring to your vessel.

Your boat will demand confirmation for all important maneuvers....."are you sure you want to change course 90 degrees to port to avoid oncoming supertanker?"

Every couple of years the ocean is reconfigured so that your boat no longer fits in the water. You must buy a new boat.

Shame he never saw it finished. It shows money is not the most important thing.

Not really. Philip Starck is a number one exterior designer.
Starting a design is making a bunch of propositions according to the measurements of the principal.

After a final design has been chosen, it is the construction yard filling it in, after that those particulars are established, the interior designer can start doing his job.

Exterior design (design of hull & superstructure) and construction design sometimes clash. It is a complicated business and mostly the yard gives the owner a speed proven hull upon the exterior designer can start to draw a final shape. Weights play a prticular important role.

The only time you have so much plain flat walls, without anything breaking up the monotony, is a hand ball court. Maybe he has several hand ball courts inside that thing.

See the pic with what looks like two dissimilar cords stuck together with electoral tape, and holding a cabinet door open? What is that about, home speakers from one of the Mac's? Lol

This whole boat is about showing casing his computers. Nothing on the 260 feet of this tub detracts from the computers in the windows which I am sure are well lit up 24/7 and can be seen for miles.
