Silverton 360 Express Sports Cruiser

Hi All,

We are having survey and mechanical checks done on this vessel on Wednesday this week, hopefully the rain will ease off long enough to do it all.

I have taken her on a sea tial and she performed quite well, it has twin mercruiser 454 magnum engines coupled to V shaft drives.

Here are two videos of the sea trial:

Hi Mav

Nice boat

I'm I right in saying that later in the video there was a bit of steam coming from the starboard engine?

What rev were you doing and what were the temp gauge reading.

There was steam from the port engine, from the camera view it would look like the starboard engine, I believe the mechanical report will show a problem with the risers and manifold on the port engine. They are FWC, it was an extremely humid day as well. The engine hours are at 462 and the engines have been with the boat from new in 1998.

We were up around 4000 RPM on the test run according to the tacho's.

The boat was mostly used to entertain potential clients of a property developer on the Gold Coast so it basically has done little more than cruised the canals whilst clients sipped champagne and looked at canal front homes.

You must admit , that's not a bad way to spend an afternoon.

I once read that risers need to changed every five years no matter how much use they get. You would think if one needs changing so would the other.

I get the same thing on my boat and have replaced risers. It only happens whn you up the revs. Anything under 1500 RPM and there is no sign of steam.

But I think I have a prop issue which could be causing a problem.

Good Luck and keep the champagne cold.

Cheers mate,

I will hopefully know for sure what is happening once I get the results of the mechanical report, the mech is doing compression testing as well.

If it is a riser problem I will see about getting the vendor to repair it.

Well the deal is done, the survey and mechanical inspection was carried out today. Like I expected there was always going to be some problems and there are but nothing that cannot be fixed and definitely no deal breakers. We renegotiated the price with the vendor to account for the repairs that are needed.

Now it is a case of getting the repairs done and for the rotten rain to cease. Way too much debris washing out to the sea at the moment to contemplated a voyage down the coast from the Gold Coast Sea Way to Port Stephens.

How long do you think the trip will take you?

How much fuel can you carry?

Good Luck and save sailing

Realistically it should only take two days but I will probably spread it over 3 days. I should be able to get from the Gold Coast Seaway to Coffs Harbour on the first day and then the next day I should be able to make Port Stephens.

It has a fuel capacity of 1082 litres spilt evenly between 2 tanks. one tank for each engine.

Thanks I am also doing my VHF/MF/HF certification before I put to sea to make me nice and legal.

I am getting all the risers replaced, autopilot repaired, new bilge pumps and new float switches, all anodes renewed, rudders and props anti-fouled, new alternator for the port engine, minor oil leak fixed on port engine, heat exchangers serviced, both engines serviced with new plugs and new filters, new VHF radio (it works but the LCD display is stuffed) plus some other minor things rectified.

SMART MOVE getting the risers changed. They are the one thing that can quickly kill an engine!!! Good luck with your new boat!!!!
