Newbie Question

First off...Hello and what an awesome site.

Well a little background..I've been boating for the better part 28 years and I have had over 14 boats, small skiffs, 23' Irwin Sailboat, but mostly powerboats; specifically high perf. offshore boats (Carrera,Pantera,Scorpion etc)for the last 12 years.
So I am familiar with boats and boating in general.

But during the last year my interest in cruising and living a much simpler lifestyle has drawn me to cruising. Me and the wife are on a plan that will hopefully give us a lot more time for cruising within the next 5 yrs (actually now 58 months left). We are looking at staying with a powerboat (trawler, cruiser) but I really can't seem to find much that fits what I'm looking for. I would like to find something used (don't mind if it needs some work) that we can take for extended trips of 2-3 weeks at a time.
Requirements are that it must accomodate 2 adults comfortably, get good fuel economy and be under 30k.

I do have something that I want to toss out and see what some of you think...(Please dont laugh) I have available to me a mid 70's 28 Luhrs that I can get for free basically and its solid.
Has anyone ever thought of putting on a 75-100hp outboard on a bracket on something like a Luhrs and motoring at displacement speeds? It seems like the new efficient outboards (4stroke, Optimax) that it might work.
Would this work?? Opinions.

Thanks
Angel

Edit: My comments were for a sailboat, so they didn't apply so deleted.

Re: Newbie Question

Grand Banks trawlers are nice liveaboards. I don't really like an outboard for the application you are speaking of.
