New to boating - Southeast Florida

We're finally considering boating, and have taken our first step and will be moving to Fort Lauderdale, FL. My wife and I wish to by a boat so we can go down to the Keys, staying close to shore. We figure we'll take some 2-3 day trips, maybe a bit longer. We're thinking about a 30' cuddy, new or almost new. Is this an appropriately-sized boat for this sort of excursion?

Hi.... Welcome to CF
I take it your talking a motor boat... for what you seem to have in mind I'd say 30ft is just fine... just need a toilet, galley and a comfy bed.....

Great, thanks for the advice. Yes, a motorboat. We've got those 3 points covered. Any boat brands that I should stay away from? We're thinking Rinker, Regal, or Sea Ray.

Don't really know any US brands... this side Sunseekers are 'the boat of choice' for many...
But I'm sure someone will chip in from your side of the pond soon...

Do you expect to require speed?
How about some of these small tug like boats chugging away?
Those seem like great keys/intracoastal cruisers.

Welcome aboard! Sounds like you'll be taking some fun voyages. 30' is spacious and comfortable for a couple doing coastal cruising...you'll figure out your "limits" as you go along (wind, weather, and sea state)...just stay put and protected when the conditions don't meet your comfort level, even if you've made plans to be somewhere else. Have a great time!

Something like a 30' searay should be just fine and easy to buy

If you're looking for an express cruiser, sea ray & regal should be on your list.
