New Member from Alaska

Hello

I just wanted to introduce myself, being a new member from Alaska

I am here because I am interested in making cruising a lifestyle, and this seems to be a great place to discuss that.

A bit about me. I'm early 50's, married, and an empty nester. I work at job in the oil fields of Alaska that is rotational in that for two weeks at a time I'm at work, and for two weeks at a time I'm at home, off work. To go to work I show up at the Anchorage Alaska airport, and they drop me off there at the end of my shift.

My boat is a Bayliner model 4788. Before you say, "Oh a Bayliner" consider that this is a far cry from the 16' inexpensive ski boats you see with the same brand name.

My boat is 47' hull length, 53' overall with a 15' beam and displaces 30 tons. The boat has soft chines, a full keel, and a range of well over 600 miles at 8 knots. It is a raised pilothouse design and is a very capable coastal cruiser.

My cruising experience is around a decade of cruising in Prince William Sound and the Gulf of Alaska. I have made two inside passage voyages in my own boats from Washington state to Alaska, both including Gulf of Alaska crossings (320NM). The last voyage was this summer when I brought my new boat home to Seward Alaska.

My goals are simple... I want to see everywhere I can safely see in my coastal cruiser. I want to explore, dream, adventure.

Welcome aboard. 'Tis always nice to hear from another north Pacific sailor. I paid a visit to Seward earlier this summer and dropped in at the Sea Life Centre off of (if I recall) Railway Ave.

I have to ask, was the sea life center interesting? I've never been in there.

Seward is a great little town, but for me it is a departure point as it is our home port. I know where the grocery store and of course the boat parts stores are.

I enjoyed the visit and hope to get back when I have a bit more idle time and not in need of keeping up with a schedule.
