I've been working on my restroration since March /16 I've been cruising in the Gulf of Mexico Destin area since June/16.

not sure if my little cruiser would be safe to cruise the Bahamas?

if you cruise in a aluimin boat post a image of it.


I'm hoppeing to see some 12V DC powered Gallerys setups of portable generater, AC sys. hot water, probabelly won't have shore power.

I would say since you have already been cruising in the Gulf you know you have to watch for the small craft advisory. That being the case your craft, with the right weather could become a Bahamas cruiser.

Would you tow the boat across and down Florida or take the long way around?

From the southeast coast of Florida a powerboat can get across the Gulf Stream and into the Bahamas with the right weather easy.

yes I am on a constant alert for both SCA/winds/swell height/

currently it's ruff in the GOM which means I'll either boat in bay or block the wind w/ a island like Dauphin IS.

I would like to do both I'd initially drive to see the lay of the land then do the curcimnavagate the state of FL

As said previously written I am still working on my smallish crusier restore. The major stuff engine/mounting sys/steering/trim/controls/electricalNAV/fueling/oiling/anchor sys. Bilge/Livewell sys.s ect. are all ship/shape.

Was a significant improvement however I’m disappointed it her becoming unstable at top speed.

I do relize when Starcraft designed this hull it wasn’t intended to be propelled this fast

Hopefully there will be some advice on stabilizing her at WOT maybe planner plates or engine dolphin fins for the cavitation plates will help?

I’ve been told that the dolphin fins attached to the engine will interfere w/ steering ease?

Anyway I’m not really sure if I quailify as a Capt. Even though I prefer to be refered to as a Capt. (this coming from folks that know about the boat).

I have well over the 96 hours the USCG requires for a operaters license, which I believe I already have from the State for Alabamas vessel license.

I have 100 hours per month x 20 months =2000 hours under my boating belt
Over about 11 year’s in Bay/GOM waters so this is ruff waters however all this experience was in a 15’ aluimin deep V 25HP tiller runabout.

Now I’ve stepped up to a 22’cruiser which now w/ engine POD is actually 24’

You have a 6cyl in there? My Sylvan 22 offshore maxes out at 36mph. I have the 3.0 4cyl.

Ah, Didn't pick that up in the pic. As incredibly light as these boats are, I would not like to be caught in bad weather. Most Ive been in is 3 to 5 footers in lake Erie. No fun.

I cant call what I do cruising. I do overnight comfortably. Our boats are under​ 2000lbs in weight. Makes em fuel efficient, but not wave crushers. Excellent fishing platforms.

yes they can be wave crushers during ruff waters I lift the bow Miami vice style and crush upto 3' white caps.


you are correct about the wind it really catches mine (mainly because of the hardtop)
both in the water and towing.


are you boating in a big lake?

Erie is the biggest. We have a very shallow v. I love it for what it is, but it'll beat the snot out of you in waves. You are wise to stay in the lee of an island when things kick up.
