New & Looking for Friends

Hi there, we are fairly new to the Cruisers Forum Family!

We have been a part of the Hatteras Owner's Forum mostly.

We are former sailors who made the switch to power last year and are trying to modernize our Ol' Girl! She a 1968 50' Hatteras Motor Yacht, the 3 cabin/3 head layout. We love her...so far! Ha!

So really just wanted to introduce ourselves, promote our blog (of course) and see if there are any other 50's or ANY people interested in seeing more "Sailors Switch to Power" or "Project Motor Boat" goodies! Maybe you've met us or heard of us but we've not connected through this site, shoot us a line would ya!?

Thanks, we are happy to be here!

Welcome from SW Florida! In 2005, we gave up our Tayana 37 and came over to the dark side with our 1979 "one off" 48' trawler. We love her. Lots of room for the 2 of us and Mickey the navigator cat.

Ah, the "former sailors" always make the nicest passes as they fly by while we're under sail. We'll wave and take the quick spank!

Re: New & Looking for Friends

Well, we surely feel welcomed! Ha! Thank you all so much for taking the time to just say, "Hey!" For now we are docked in Fort Lauderdale (the land of plenty) and hoping to outfit Felicity and take off to the Bahamas and some Northern East Coast US destinations!

Thank you for the kind words, we love our boat and are excited to see what cruising will be like with her as opposed to our prior experiences aboard our sailboats. (424 Pearson 2006 - 2009 & 36' Ericson 2009 - 20011!)

We, too, have boat kitties aboard, our two island kitties have travelled all over with us since their escape from the Turks & Caicos!

BTW, we ALWAYS give a slow pass since we have been the sailboat who hated power boatesr once too. We give everyone a fair shake

Re: New & Looking for Friends

Thanks for tip! (Marine Strip & Mop & Glo) I will try this next trip to the boat for sure. I hate the cord tracks all over the cockpit and my power cord is white.

Re: New & Looking for Friends

Just sold our 37' Jeanneau Voyage monohull sloop in October & have now, 01/01/13, purchased a 1988 Heritage East Sundeck 36' trawler. Plan to move aboard in a few weeks in Marathon, Fl. Interested in keeping in touch with persons of similar experiences. Jim & Gina

Re: New & Looking for Friends

Welcome to CF Jessica & Gia. In the past your talking points might have been boat speed on some given point of sail, now maybe nm per gallon burn rate. I have friends that just came through Panama on their 43' Nordhavn and are now in Golfito and heading north.

Re: New & Looking for Friends

my wife and I lived aboard our hunter33 and then an Islander41 for about 8 years. wonderful times. My wife has passed away and I am selling my house and plan to buy a power boat of some sort. Seems like they should be easier to single hand. Right now selling this thing has me consumed! I want to move!
Thinking of mainship 35/39. Look nice and simple enough and plenty of space. Any thoughts?
