Miami to Marathon Inside or out?

I have a 50 full displacement trawler. I did the key west run to Miami via Hawks. It was beautiful but but more bruising then cruising. Trying to time anchorages, tides, etc. was challenging. The anchorages did not hold us well and we ended up having to shoot the hole trip with very little rest.
Ok with this being said... I want to go to Marathon via the inside then take Moser channel to Florida Bay as I am taking boat back to Dunedin Fl. We want to enjoy Key Largo and see the inside ...but some say I can make it...others laugh and say no way. Is it that difficult and shallow that I should just head back out to Hawks?
Thank you to all those that respond!

Unless works been done, the inside is only cleared to 6'

Re: Miami to Marathon Inside or out?

I came through the inside banging and grinding up the bottom and I draw 6 ft. Steel is real. I will not go that away again. We're talking hard coral and rock.
Stay on the outside, it's an easy run.

You don't say what your draft is but there are some spots that, over 5 feet at anything other than high tide might be a problem if you stray from the channel just a little bit. Chuck
