insurance coverage w/minimum experience

Are we the minority if we have 25 years of boating experience on 30 to 35 foot boats and want to buy a 53 foot trawler to liveaboard?
Are we a higher risk and will our insurance be more expensive?

Call your current insurance company. They may charge more for a few years, but I wouldn't guess it would be too bad.

Re: insurance coverage w/minimum experience

I bought my current 45' boat last year. Prior to this the largest boat I had owned was a 23' boat.

The first years insurance was $1990. This past years renewal was $1800. It does pay to shop around though. Some of my quotes were $4000

That sounds like a great rate for your boat.

Re: insurance coverage w/minimum experience

Is this for hull insurance or P&I or both?

What are the coverage limits?

My current boat is insured through insurance pools, but I'll be looking for outside coverage in the not too distant future.

Re: insurance coverage w/minimum experience

My coverage is through Ski Safe. Coastal US and Florida waters. I just added a Bahamas rider for $125 for the year but can only leave the boat in Bahamian waters for 30 days at a time.

$130,000 agreed replacement value. $3900 deductable, $11,700 name storm deductible. $500,000 liability. Pollution coverage $850,000, Medical $25,000 and personal property $2500. $1000 towing coverage. I also have uninsured boaters coverage.
