While other may not agree I feel that most any inboard boat over 25 feet that is used for cruising or offshore fishing
should be diesel
. Some specialty boats like restored mahogany speedsters or larger restored boats that are just puttered around occasionally are fine with gas power.
is safer, less expensive in most places, and fuel
consumption per hour or mile is better. Also, engine maintenance
is greatly reduced but can be more expensive to initially buy or rebuild
when that time comes.
My 38 ft cruises at 18 to 20 mph and burns 17-19 Gal/Hr while burns less than 3 to 4 Gal/Hr at troll. Twin 250 hp 8.2L Detroits.
