FUEL SYSTEM

Hello- Was hoping to get a few opinions on a planned fuel system. Looking for flexibility while still trying to keep it somewhat simple. This system uses a fuel supply manifold AFTER the primary fuel filters, than both the genset AND main draw fuel from the same filter. The concerns raised have been the possibility of pulling air into the fuel system for instance when running the main and not the genset, or vice versa... I could put check valves in the line to prevent this, but that just adds another point of failure. I like this system as i don't need to have a unique line and filter for each engine. Your thoughts would be much appreciated... Thanks!!!

Yes, you need separate filters. Here is the ultimate setup which uses three manifolds and two pumps:

I would also separate the P/S return lines. W/o some kind of metering system all the return fuel could be going to one tank.

And I'm not sure if I'd splice any of the return lines together. Ya don't know what back pressure may do to the mated machinery if it were not running.

In hydraulic systems the return line is always the largest & metered to carry all return lines so that there is no back pressure on any of the pumps/cylinders.
