Double Eagle: Good Offshore Boat?

Does anyone know anything about boats like this 22' Double Eagle in terms of offshore capabilities?

I suppose I mean this, if I am away from the land, and caught in a storm, will this boat preform well to get back to land, or will it sink! Also, can it handle rough seas in any case without breaking everyone's back...

They're popular around here for fishing. I wouldn't plan on motoring to Japan in one, but it would probably be a good boat for salmon or halibut fishing.

Probably it cannot carry enough fuel for that anyway

It should have floatation built in, but I would suggest that you keep an eye on the weather and avoid situations that put you at risk. That boat should be fast enough that you can head back to shore and avoid dangerous situations before they become an issue. We occasionally go fishing off the west coast of Vancouver Island and when the wind starts picking up and we're being tossed about, we quickly lose interest in fishing and call it quits for the day.

Yeah, I would try to avoid the bad weather, but if caught I would want a relatively safe boat.

In my experience most of the dangerous situations are caused by mechanical breakdowns, so if you keep the engine in good running order and have an outboard "kicker" as a back up it should be fine.

Agreed, but if push comes to shove, would you rather be in a 22' double eagle or a similar bayliner?

For fishing, I'd prefer higher gunnels just because I'm less likely to go overboard, but I'd probably chose the one I felt was in better mechanical condition for the reason stated above. If you're operating in remote areas where you're unlikely to be able to call for assistance twin engines sized so you can plane on just one is the way to go. If money was no object I would own one of these:

Re: Double Eagle: Good Offshore Boat?

If your talking about 5 or 6 miles offshore, and a Normal watch on the weather, it should be just fine ! In 40 knots of wind 15 or 20 miles off shore, Ya better be a great seaman cus thats a near shore boat! At least thats what it looks like to me !! I would use it down here for the type of fishing we do but would not care to run way off shore when the weather looks a little shadie to me !! It would depend on the condition and the engines !! Just my 2 cents

What size and type of boat would you use for 40 K winds?

I wouldn't go out in 40 knot winds in a small power boat of any sort.

What is better, a 22' double eagle cabin cruiser or a 28' bayliner, for offshore rough seas?
