Re: Diesel in Haiti

Yes, we have read this excellent guide but it is short on refuelling, and as we are motoring would like to play the safe card !!

Looking at 2 to 300 gallons, hopefully a lot less.

Do have a reserve tank but wish to leave that alone.

Re: Diesel in Haiti

Fuel is available in Les cayes Haiti, about $5 USD per gallon. I don't know the situation there, as I had it brought across to Ile a Vache, by the local boat boys to avoid me going to the mainland. In Barahona Dominican Republic, I also paid about the same price, small quantities can be jugged from the gas station by motorcycle or for larger quantities a fuel truck will come down to the small marina there.

Thanks for replying, very useful info for us, do you have any idea how good the diesel is, one hears many stories of bad fuel?

Re: Diesel in Haiti

The fuel from Barahona was as clean as any other service station. Re Haiti, the first time I ran it through the Baja filter and found hardly anything. Do beware if using some of the locals fuel jugs, there was a bit of water in one of them as it had been left out overnight in the rain with a makeshift plastic bag cap. Other than that, no problems. I was told in both places the fuel comes from Venezuela.

$5-$7 generally as in some countries it fluctuates rapidly and often.
