Desperately Seeking...
Offer Accepted!!!
Holy Crap! After over a year of figuring things out and a month of negotiating, I FINALLY have an accepted offer.
So now I'm desperately seeking a great surveyor and mechanical inspector. The broker gave me his list, but I'm not going to hire someone that a listing broker recommends.
Can anyone give me the name of a great surveyor in Florida? I also need a great mechanical inspector.
Thanks guys for all your help.

61' Hatteras in Florida. Can't announce the exact boat, yet, but promise to soon.

Re: Desperately seeking...
Congratulations.
Fill us in on the details when it makes sense to do so! If you figure out a good surveyor in the Panhandle region, feel free to drop their name here, too, in order to help others in the region.

Anywhere in Florida or the general area is fine. I am willing to pay travel to the boat, just want someone very very good, and, not a broker pleaser.

If you get a good surveyor, be prepared for a LOT of bad news

That's ok. I would prefer a LOT of bad news, than a LOT of BS.

Re: Desperately seeking...
You've really got to narrow the area of FL down. Nobody can suggest a surveyor when different parts of FL are about 10 hours apart.
Don't be scared. Your offer is accepted. This means that since you put your deposit down, the boat is yours, unless you refuse it at the offer price after survey.
You can certainly disclose the region safely.

Re: Desperately seeking...
And general words of caution after a quick skim of your blog.
Mold. If you winter over in New England, you will spend quite a bit of time dealing with condensation and mold. You may wreck the boat with mold. Also, as ice freezes into any small cracks in the decks or ports or hatch seals, it will make them bigger allowing more and more water in, damaging the boat more. Shrink wrap for sure if wintering over. I've done 3 winters in New England. Best advice is to go to FL in the winter.
Which brings me to the next caution. This Hatteras will cost you like 5 grand or more to move up in fuel. Be aware of that.
Good luck!!

Try this guy....I'm just not sure if he does power boats.
He saved our butt doing a survey on a Stevens 47 a couple of months ago...
Extensive experience, great attitude, willing to travel.
We highly recommend him:

Re: Desperately seeking...
West florida would be more practical, but we are not opposed to flying a surveyor in either if he comes highly recommended.
