I've owned my DF 53RPH for the last 6.5 years. We've put about 20,000 nm under her keel and are currently cruising in southern Florida.

What would you like to know?

Are you happy with the construction and what kind of performance do you get with which motor set up. I saw a new 48PH boat built by the Pocta Group marine division Tiwan at the seattle boat show and I am interested in the 50PH it looks interesting twin Jhon Deer motors from 150-300 hp options.

We have twin John Deere 225's. Ours was built by Pocta in 2002. For the first few years, we ran the boat at 1800 RPM which pushed us as 8.9 kts. We burned 7.5 gallons per hour giving about 1 mile per gallon. That's considered pretty good for a larger boat with twins. As fuel got more expensive, we started slowing down. Now we run at 1500 RPM's which pushes us at 7.6 kts. We now burn around 3.5 - 4.0 GPH yielding around 2 miles per gallon which is considered really good.

The boat is super-comfortable and incredibly safe. DeFever's are tanks. They aren't finished (interior wood, etc) as finely as Flemings or the higher end Grand Banks. But they are less expensive because of it - about half the cost.

The DeFever Cruisers club is very active. You should poke around the web site and look at the different models that exist.

All in all, we've been very happy and continue to use it and live aboard it for most of the year. I would definitely consider another DeFever in the future if I ever wanted another boat.

Thank you for the feed back-My assesment of the boat is pretty much in line with what you tell me. One more question how does it do in beam and following seas(is it a roller)?

Our boat is stabilized with Naiad stabilizers. I don't know of anyone who takes their trawler offshore without some means of stabilization - even on the Chesapeake I'd want stabilizers. With stabilizers, it's wonderful. Beam seas are our favorite because they have no effect on the motion at all. Head on seas are the most obnoxious. They're safe but obnoxious. We have tacked in head on seas to take them on the beam instead.

Hope that helps - feel free to ask more.

That sounds like the same boat I looked at at the show last fall. If it is it was a demo boat that they were willing to sell at a very good price. Good luck.
