Cruising the Carribean

I am thinking of buying an older motor yacht, I like the 48 foot Chris Craft Roamer (maybe because my last name is Roamer and I was born in 48) but I don't know if I could cruise the Carribean in this boat. Any input would be appreciated.

Roamer,

There are plenty motor yachts, many smaller than 48', in the USVI, Spanish Virgins, and BVI. Also in St. Maarten. They become fewer as you move down the island chain, for whatever reason. Probably due to personal choice of cruising grounds, I suspect.

It's relatively easy to find good weather for the inter-island passages, where you'd be exposed to heavier seas and winds. Conditions in the anchorages on the lee sides of the islands are fine for power and sailing yachts.

I don't know what kind of budget you will be on, but you might want to run a few numbers on fuel consumption for that Chris Craft. I owned a 41' CC Catalina which cost several hundred dollars a fillup fifteen years ago and would probably take $1200 today. That was about a nice weekend putting around.
