Cobalt

Well, it's not a sailboat but it is a free boat. I was given a 1975 Cobalt 18' bowrider. It needs a little work but should be a good boat. When it was pulled out of the water and stored on the trailer it ran fine. But that was 4 years ago. Unfortunatly the floor has rotted out and the gel coat has lots of small cracks. The floor should be no problem but the cracks I am not sure yet what to do. I do have a delima though. The owner said the boat has a 306 engine? I have seen for sale adds that say 302-351 but no 306. There is a sticker on the heat exhanger that says "188 H.P." It is a Mercruiser engine and I assume Mercruiser outdrive. I am in the process of trying to find the s/n of the engine to cross reference it. Anyone with info on this boat or shop manuals for sale would be a great help. Thanks in advance for the info.
zeus.
ps, can I still stay even though it doesn't have a sail

There's a few of us stinkpotters here Zeus. All are welcome. Can you post some pics of the boat. There's a complete restoration of an Aquasport flatback going on over here....

Plenty of good info on materials and techniques. Well worth a gander for anyone going down that road.

188hp is going to make it a small block of some sort. Either GM 305 or Ford 302/289

Here is a link to the boat. Spent about 4 hours cleaning the leaves and rat nets out of if. Also had to scrub to get all of the tree sap off. Picasa Web Albums - Scott - 1975Cobalt

The dreaded Tri-Hull. It was an inovation not worthy of being discovered.

Engine wise. You're a Ford 289/302 marinized by Merc. parts should be easy to find.
