Hello to all,
I am about to purchase a mustang 2800 series 2 2002 model. I would like to know if anyone can tell me what the fuel economy is like as i cannot find any sites that can tell you.
I have upgraded from a Bayliner 175 bow rider to the Mustang 2800, 135 HP to 280HP.
If anyone can assist i would appreciate it.

There are two many variables involved to tell you precise mpg. I have a 28' glass cruiser with a pair of fuel injected 260 hp Marine Power V8's. I burn lots of fuel at cruising speed but have no fuel flow meter to keep a record. With 150 gal. of fuel on board, I am comfortable with a 100 mile range. Friends with identical hulls and similar power report averaging 1.15 mpg at cruise. So you could expect around 2 mpg with a single 260. Most boating magazine tests show fuel consumption in gallons per hour at a variety of RPM's .

Just follow the rule of 1/3 of a tank out, 1/3 back, and keep 1/3 in reserve.

I will try and look into it more. The new purchase holds 300 LTR's of fuel and i have just been told that at 21 knts it will use 55 ltrs per hour? Well it is was it is. Life is too short live the dream i say.

I have owned a 2800 with the 280 hp engine (and duoprop drive). As said previously, many variables to consider such as sea state, amount of load being carried, condition of hull, props etc. But in general - 2 mpg was my experience.

With a clean hull and a recent service - fuel consumption was pretty consistent once you had it on plane. From 18 through to around 23 knot it hung around 2 mpg. Wide open throttle in a glassy sea saw it drop to 1.5 mpg for a 30 knot speed.

I have this exact boat. Are you in Australia? If so I can tell you it is not impossible to do in $AU200 in a day in fuel.

But the economy is largely down to your driving style. It took me a while to work out slow and steady wins the race.

It's an excellent boat for the money - there is nothing on the market to compare IMHO.

Basically, it's a cruiser, so don't drive it like a speedboat.
