Bullseye to you both. Neat appearance makes a big difference, especially in non european nations. Men should wear pants, not shorts. Shorts in most parts of the world means you are looking for another man to have sex with or are extremely poor.

Not really a factor in Florida, that's for sure. Shorts are almost a mandatory "uniform."

Re: A couple more questions

ranger, wayne.b and others: Thank you so much for your tips, insights, and ballpark estimates. We have now spoken with finance people, marina people, brokers, and techs. We have reviewed the types of insurance and the coverages and spoken with some insurance folks. We have reviewed our budget and are comfortable with the plan we have put in place. We plan to hit the Florida boat shows this fall and will start actively shopping in the late spring of next year. By this time next year, we hope to be in our own boat similar to the example in the first post.

In the meantime, I've been refining my navigation knowledge, reading up on how to maintain vacuflush heads, generators, etc. And I'll continue to lurk here to absorb as much additional knowledge as possible. Maybe see you out there next summer. :-)

Re: A couple more questions

All Cruisers have balsa cored bottoms. At least half of those I've surveyed (40) had significant water intrusion in the balsa due to shoddy throughull installations. Give your surveyor (and yourself) a chance.... Have it out of water at least overnight so moisture content can be determined with more accuracy than it would hanging in the slings for an hour.
