22m Power Boat sinks at Marina
22m Motor Yacht 'Stealth' - sinks at Sydney Marina
'A FAULTY seal is the most likely reason a 22-metre luxury power boat sank at the prestigious Royal Motor Yacht Club on Sydney Harbour, police say. Police were called to the club's Rose Bay marina about 4am (AEST) yesterday after the Warren cruiser was discovered almost submerged. No one was aboard the boat, owned by high-profile accountant Anthony Bell, when it went down.' ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Before sinking. Those are terrible pictures to look at!
I remember a few years back a friend of ours who owns a Princess 41' had the exact same experience. He was having some work done with his boat in the yard. When the work was done, the boat was launched and that afternoon our friend arrived expecting to go out and enjoy the beautiful Georgian Bay summer day. What he saw was something like the first four pictures that you've shown. Luckily, the boat hit bottom before it turned over like in picture 5 (it was relatively shallow water at the launch site ~ 8'). I know that he had electrical problems for years after the incident. But as I say, it was in Georgian Bay so the freshwater didn't cause as much damage as if it was salt. It turned out to be the same problem; a faulty seal(s). Only in this case, the seal was not to blame. The faultiness came from the yard who forgot to put them back before launching!! Anyway, interesting pictures. I wouldn't wish that on anybody but it's nice to know that Mr. Bell will be keeping the local economy going with the years of repairs that are sure to follow!
