1989 Sunbridge Bayliner Poising Power

I am new to boating and just purchased the above boat. I am having an issue with it. Basically, the boat runs great when the motor is running except on the volt meter I see that the voltage is jumping from 12 to 14v. When I stop and turn off the motor everything is dead on the boat...no lights will even turn on. If I wait for 30 min limited power comes on. Just to start the boat and get moving. I plugged the onshore in and the charger .....same results. With the key in the "on" position I am only getting 11v. I think the batteries or the charging system is faulty ? Thoughts ?

Check battery?

Have you checked your batteries?

I took both batteries in to get tested. One of them were shot. I bought a new one and put both back in. I am on shore power now charging both of them. Hopefully all is well.

You should replace both batteries at the same time. If one is weaker it will drain the other.

Do you have a selector switch? When you have 2 batteries 1 bank should be your house bank the other the engine start bank. The start bank should always be held in reserve to start the engine. All the connections should be clean (no corrosion). A 3 stage charger can charge and maintain your batteries & as stated in another post you are better off replacing all batteries at the same time & the house battery should be a deep cycle.
