"WTF" moment

I get these often when delivering boats. Had one yesterday.

My son and I delivered a Peterson 42 dual Volvo Penta trawler about 15 miles up river for a new owner. He never had a boat like this and his last boat was a sailboat in the bay about 20 years ago. Its been on the hard in a yard for about 1.5 months getting refit.

Owner rented a covered slip nestled way back in this tight water way.

As I am entering I turn to the owner and say, "I think your boat will be the biggest back here". He turns to me and says, "This is why I hired you".

That is about the time when I have all of these thoughts running through my head, like am I even going to be able to turn it around, and the fact there is no way he will ever be able to get this boat out with out some experienced. This is were it gets interesting.

I slowly creep the trawler through the water way, as I approach the slip I start turning the boat and nosing her in. About half way in I stop the boat and tell the owner to look up. The roof was about to take out the awning, radar, lights, etc. We didn't fit.

I managed to get the boat out, and also had a previous customers slip that I could put it in temporarily. I get in these situations all the time, fortunately nothing bad has happened yet. But time will tell.

I inquired at various places for a 72' roof clearance... none available...

Covered slips for sailboats would be a hot ticket, but pretty cost prohibitive. I think this owner is going to find that he won't find a covered slip in this area that easy. Its a president 41', that is actually 45' long, and about 25 feet tall.

How tall is/was "Flipper", that cartoon looking monstrosity which rolled over upon launch?
Moot point, I suppose as the top's been cut down some.
