WOW, docking for fuel in 55 knot wind NOT

Ok so, we're headed out gonna try to make it to lake worth inlet today. It's beautiful and the forecast says southeast wind 5 to 10 then 5 knots after midnight, we roll out of here at about 3 pm as we head south wind picked up I start marking 14 knots on the anemometer, call the fuel dock and tell them were heading their way, as I get closer to the bridge I start marking about 20 knots, no worries its southeast i'll be headed strait into it when docking, just before i turn into the channel for the fuel do the wind switches direction 90 degrees, i found that odd and started to think about bailing, but I decide to go ahead and get her fueled and get off shore, I pass the second set of markers in the narrow little channel and mark 55 knot winds INSTANTLY coming right over the starboard beam, all my canvas blows in ripped the snaps right out, i throw the wheel right and run the throttle all the way up she whipped around and we're taking 55 off the port side, no longer can see the markers, follow my trail back out to the channel and hauled ass back north to get our anchor down before it passes over one more time.

So here we are, anchored up just south of the bridge the storm has passed, my brand new cockpit seat blew right out of the cockpit, hadn't even gotten to sit in it.

Wife says i exaggerated it was only 54 knots, but I question her watchful eye on the anemometer.

That sucks. Davy got a new seat and you never got to enjoy it.

My wife would always keep an eye on the anemometer, and start to tense up. 4 years ago a bird sat on it disabling it. My first response was to fix it, and then a thought came to me. If she has nothing to read then she has nothing to complain about.

It was not the first time i had been heeled by a strong wind more or less unexpectantly (it happens in florida), but it was the first time I had been caught by surprise in a narrow channel at least to that extent. Well today looks even better, so we are going to make our crossing tonight, headed down to lake worth, then we're making our turn and headed to little bahama bank.

Oh and we have to get fuel first LOL
