Odds are that someone simply has a very sad hobby , but could be someone identifying folks who are willing to share info by asking a (genuinely) harmless question (and deliberately unusual).............Don't guarantee that folks who respond will later share anything useful, but ups the odds (with some things it is simply a numbers game).

Only boat I know it's hull number is currently closing the finish line of ARC. Swan 65 hull number 2. What I know there never was hull number 1 becouse the buyer was a bit superstitious and the first tour with the new boat was Whitbread.. and the rest is history.
