Re: What's the Worst Piece of Advice You've Ever Received ?

Just spray that diesel/oil combination in the intake to get that engine started. Keep cranking it'll start.

Yeah, right! Diesels don't start and run if the injection isn't timed right. A few hundred dollars and lots of time to recover from that one.

That steels boats aren't a hassle to maintain. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt, sold the boat and went back to Tupperware.

I suffered that advice too. Boats are so much cheaper to get rid of.

Re: What's the Worst Piece of Advice You've Ever Received ?

The man in the information office for False Creek Vancouver anchoring and permits told me his favorite place to anchor was just past the Cambie Street Bridge off Science World and suggested I do the same.

Trouble is the bridge clearance is 42 feet (and I need 48 feet)!

BTW He knew what I was sailing having helped me dock.

"She's got a few minor issues but basically a very sound boat" And "this home is just what you are looking for!"
Bottom line- if they are really anxious to sell it, there is a reason.

Doesn't mean it has to be a bad reason
Some people are just unsuited to yachts, or their needs change or have medical issues or financial issues forcing sale etc.

WOW...If that isn't a worst case scenario i'm not sure what is. This story makes me really glad we have a reefing system.

Re: What's the Worst Piece of Advice You've Ever Received ?

Can't say I rely on advice from others - but certainly I have given myself lots of dumb ar#ed advice over the years

Does that count?
