Van de Stadt 44

My Morgan keeps me plenty busy. I picked up a South African 93 steel Van de Stadt ketch rig yesterday as a gift for son #3.

She has been ignored for a few years and it shows. I plan to assist with a bottom and paint job but hope he and his brothers enjoy the never ending project.

Nice of you to include your boys in your passion. I hope they dive right in.

Re: Van de Stadt 44

On a much smaller scale, I recently acquired a hobie 14 for my 12 yr old son and I to enjoy.

When I started looking for my own boat about a year ago, I realized my son had never set foot on a sailboat. Broke my heart. I was an excellent sailor at 12 with thousands of nautical miles under my belt.

I immediately began looking for something small but fun. And that's impossible to sink. If I hadn't broken the base of the mast during its initial set up we'd be under sail right now.

I hope he loves it as much as I did so he will want to join me on my boat on his summer breaks.

Sailing a Hobie is a great way to break him in to the life.

Fair winds.

You have inspired me to take up a neighbours offer of an old Hobie that is just lying around for the best price of all.

Gee, Cap, wouldn't it have been less expensive to get down to the corner, buy a dime bag of crack and get them addicted to that? I mean, really, you have doomed him (them) to a life of servitude to chandlers and other forms of piracy. What a Dad!

Seriously, nice one, Cap... hope that it takes!

Thanks Jim. I do too.

My youngest is on his way. He has been putting a lot of his time into the 1965 Columbia 26 that I picked up last year for him. Sweet old boat.

Now he has a place to put any spare money he stumbles on to.

Really enjoyed seeing Adam grin while he was admiring the cosmetic improvements brought about by a bit of paint on his hull today.
