Those long foul weather passages

Just wondering if anyone else has had to stay at the wheel in rough seas w/o the ability to leave their post for obvious reasons. It sure would make since to to make some convenient modifications.

That is sissy. Yes I have had to stay at the helm in nasty conditions. It was near shore singlehanded. Unexpected squall for a few hours. Simply pee in the cockpit. With or without lowering the zipper. No big deal. In the right conditions there will be a full rinse each minute or so.

Hi there.

Recently crossed Bass Strait from Refuge Cove to Tamar, single handed and forced to manually steer all the way as auto pilot has died. 32 hrs at wheel, hove to couple of times for naps. Lived on Coke cola and Muesli bars kept in sheet bag beside helm.

Last year on voyage to Lord Howe Island with a mate from work and couldn't light the stove for three days due to sea conditions. Lived on cold food and drinks..

Amen brother, glad someone else said it first. Been there done that. That's what cockpit drains are for.

When the conditions are right.... it is not just real men. It can be most everyone.

Stepping from the house top to the stick as the boat lays down to pick up kelp in the spreaders without a harness comes close to that scenario....

Actually it came that way. It's an old racer and everything forward of the main bulkhead was a sail loft, except the commode. I'm just now building a head and hanging locker. Also moved the holding tank forward of the head and going to put a water maker in it's old place. Today I was fitting in the shower base.

My last boat had a Jabsco, which I had to rebuild twice in 4 years. This Raritan I rebuilt 9 years ago and it's still going strong.

An Autopilot does the trick, Makes life so easy,
