The doughnut shops in my town double bag the doughnuts that did not sell for the day, and throw them in the dumpster. My friends and I have often tasted the sweet bread of neglected pastry. All my suits were bought at the thrift store for under $15. I wear two jackets and ride my scooter in the winter temperatures in Chicago, instead of buying a car. Craigslist "free stuff" category is my homepage.
The last part is not entirely true, but I like it alot.

As soon as an item gets towards the local garbage pile in Mexico, there is a local picking it up and carrying it off. Happily for them there is quite a supply and it's close to impossible to beat them to the spoils. On the other hand, this is a "repair and re-use" society so the usual course is to seek out a repair shop for everything that breaks, the cheap alternative for everyone. Sometimes the cereal box gasket repair doesn't last very long, but sometimes it does...

Te best thing I ever heard, was a friend of mine who used to keep his perishables in the ice locker at the marina. He asked their permission in exchange for doing some cleanup work around the yard.

Thrift stores...outfitted my galley for less than 50 bucks...

PADI ought to offer cerification in dumpster diving..I will gladly sign up to instruct.

Our water is a catchment system so I used to clean my string water filter cartridges in an old cut up plastic soap bottle in order to get another couple uses out of them. Just hose them off really well, then fill the soap container with half bleach and half water and then soak them for about half an hour. Hose them off again and they are ready for reuse. Short pieces of PVC make great pole holders, man overboard pole holders and winch handle holders. Used to do all my own oil changes on the cars.
Used to coast downhill in my old cars with the gear shift in neutral to save gas. Used to just add another spoonful of coffee to the old grounds for the second and third pot for the day.
Do my own maintenance on my boat. Built my own dinghies. Carried water instead of buying a watermaker.
There's a bunch of things that I can't remember now but I am always amazed at the good things people throw away and how many things you can make out of a discarded empty plastic container.
While I was a service station attendant I used to tip the hose of the pump out into an old quart jar after each person left the pump so I could get a bit of gasolline for my old car.
Used to keep my old Triumph car running by doing all the maintenance. Checked the oil in the side draft carbs, clutch master cylinder, brake master cylinder, engine and topping of the radiator each morning. It's a wonder I didn't wear out the hinges on the bonnet.

NEVER PAY RETAIL!!!!! i was taught that by a lady who died a multimillionairess....an aunt.

let someone else cover the depreciation.
dont jump into a smelly dumpster. that is for the meth addicts.
best dumpsters are clean and behind canvas shops.LOL
day old tastes just as good as new fresh bread, and is better for sammiches!!!! go figger..
no one can do the job as well as self.
top of line is not as good quality s second to top of line.
good quality beats cheap price unless you can find the quality item in second hand shop--it is there-- many folks donot know what they have when they inherit and throw out GOOD stuff . yard sales can be goldmines.

frank--NOW i have to report your post --you are torturing my tongue and taste buds terribly-- i LOVE freshbaked bread---wishing i had an oven installed already so i could make me some..LOL...
but if ye HAVE to buy bread, buying the day old is just as good usually unless ye make yer own.. how is that!!
