I think that the picture in the original post shows that Rebel Heart clearly is a better seaman than Captain of the Costa C. Surrounding himself with girls like that would help to correct the "compass" from the influence of a single magnetic influence.

Nothing like a flight on a DC3 into the Shetlands, over the light house and sort of slid sideways to wards the runway. As we use to say be like Dan Dare, fly Dan Air. Then there was the day that Dan Air fitted the wrong cover on the throttle (wrong term). Ended up in the water off the end of the runway into the sea, i was not on that flight. The helicopters were also fun. A blade fell off one, all the fleet were tested and only two of the mounts were not showing signs of metal fatigue. Happy Days,

Boy guys I sure hope you licensed captains got photo releases signed by these ladies before you used them for advertising.

On a serious note I would not demean all captains but you are only as good as your experience has made you. I know a lady now who is one of those take a test and get a paper. She just got her captains license and is working on her ham radio. More power to her but can she sail. Not much experience there on her 22footer.

Getting back to the first post, one obvious advantage not mentioned is the ability to make money doing what you enjoy.

That counts for a lot in my book.

Being cocky comes with a lot of things, not necessarily ones license. I know quite a few cocky boaters with and without licenses.

In this forum there seems to be an inordinate amount of hostility from non-professional mariners towards professional mariners (those that make their living on the water). We are all human and all make our mistakes. If anyone expects perfection from others then out on the water is probably not the right place to be.

I see far more mistakes coming from non-professionals than the professionals. I chalk that up to that person not being a professional and let the water run off my back. It's no big deal and nothing to get upset or excited about. You just give that person a greater CPA.

All of these girls where not interested in going out on our previous Catalina 380, But they all want to go out in the "Cat All The Time".
They really like the flat ride. Big Cockpit helps also.

Okay .... I just, as my grandmother used to say, cannot hold my Irish any longer:

1. What is this thread about? This makes me insane how this happens. A simple comment or question turns into, not a deabte, rather an argument.

If you ask a simple question, you end up getting interrogated about the intent of your question; or someone hangs onto one phrase or word in your post and "bulldogs" it.

2. You make a very kind response to someone and s/he does not have the good manners to reply, but they just further their point no matter how erroneous, as if they have nothing to learn -- because they already know it all.

3. There was nothing sexist in the OP, IMHO. Men like women, women like men, men like men, and women like women. We already know that. I have heard and read sexist and I know it when I see/hear it.

4. Eduation is important, but it does not substitute for experience. License and certification are proof that you knew (or memorized) something for a window of time. Training and experience are vital. I have a son who was USCG and a nephew who is still USAF (Major/F-15 E Pilot) and they will both tell you a little humility goes a long way.

5. Even the commercial crusieline captains have pilots come aboard in the channels and other certain situations, because they are experienced at what they do. However, if we did not require licensing, at a minimum, in some industries we would have disasters like the Concordia on a regular basis. However, IMHO -- the captain of the Concordia was a coward and was completely irresponsible -- these are character flaws, they have little to do with Maritime Education. He should have learned better in third grade.

6. I stand in awe at the work that some of the posters on this thread, and this forum, do. Amazing and courageous.

Lovely group of women! What fun. Yes, this is the definite advantage of the CATS. On Vanora, when we take the "kids": Sons 6'4" and 6'1" and their wives, we are squeezed in.

Our sons don't really enjoy going out that much and I know it has to do with their height. I am sure they would feel differently about a CAT
