I started doing crossings in the 80s. Coincidentally it was when I started drinking..

Ive only done maybe 6 crossings on my own. Maybe 5... Not keen.

Some out of work ships at anchor.. stretched for nearly 10 miles.. from slowly rotting hulls to newer ships.
2010 in the Marmaris.. opposite Pendik toward the N Eastern end

Maybe for the inexperienced..
Solo they can be handy, passage planning 10 away from the Red bits can mean a peaceful night instead of the ais and radar alarm going off every hour or three
