How about ANY solo sailor.

We are not solo without reason.

Solo sailors are like Snickers: full of nuts.

And hear is me looking forward to being a single handed sailor, maybe I should just go check myself into the nut house and save myself some money...

Naw...Crowhurst started out on the edge of nuts, the race just pushed him over.

You aren't racing are you?

I think back then they were all pretty much ignorant of each others position most of the time.. comms were not to the standard of today back then..
I think he was calculating when to start the run for home from estimated daily runs on the imagined journey.
Doubt he was even aware Moitessier had dropped out.

Hi Boatman61. I got the impression from the PBS documentary seen on Independent Lens titled, "Deep Water," that they had some idea from the limited communication they had with the HAM radios they were using. I can't verify this but your hypothesis may be correct. I recall he started later than just about everyone so he could easily calculate how far to remain behind the leaders to insure he would come in toward the back of the pack. I am sure the deception ate him alive and then the issue of losing his business on top of that since he couldn't win.

Try looking at it this way. You get all sorts of great adventures and stimulate the economy on the way to the asylum. Who could ask for more.
