RANT: The " Danger " of Sailing

Has anyone else received an earful about the dangers of sailing, from landlubbers who regularly drive at 80 mph just a few feet from other cars going the same speed on freeways, at least twice a day everyday of their entire working lives? I mean come on, what's really more dangerous and who is really taking risks!!

Yes, getting out of a bed/berth in the morning is dangerous. Just think of what could happen with a very hot cup of coffee if you weren't careful. Danger is everywhere.

Cyrus, just tell 'em they're right. You're a regular Evil Kinevil and hey, did I tell you about the time I had to fight off TWO giant kraken single-handed with nothing but a butter knife when they smelled my coffee and surged up into the cockpit while I was trying to have breakfast?!

Damned right, dangerous business going to sea.

Kraken are easy if you use a fish knife:

They seem to work well on landlubbers, too.....

They have visions of piracy, the Titanic, the Perfect Storm and piracy which stem from the fear of the unknown.

It seems to me, that more than a few of here, also suffer from emotional responses to unfounded and terribly unlikely dangers.

George Bernard Shaw rightly noted (in Devil's Disciple):
"In this world, there is always danger for those who are afraid of it."

Just because I'm paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get me....luckily, I wear my bulletproof tinfoil beard at all times.

Re: RANT: The "danger" of sailing

Sailing is dangerous if you do not know how to minimize or eliminate those dangers. The same goes for hundreds of activities.

People who are not familiar with sailing do not know how the dangers are minimized.
