I am curious why everyone here joined the cruisers forum or what led to them make their first post...

To find nice people with nice boats who will invite me to sail with them. I think I've done pretty well so far!

Well, to contribute to your poll, I'm here doing my research...listening to more accomplished sailors, to learn and ask questions.
I respect Mother Nature, and know full well she can kick your ass.....I'm looking for good advice and a catamaran.

Re: Poll: What initially brought you cruisers net?

Was in the process of solidifying my first boat purchase and wanted to hear from like minded folks. What I found here is a group of fun spirited boaters/cruisers/sailors...so I stuck around. I am still gaining knowledge and experience, so I do not have too much to share yet.

Re: Poll: What initially brought you cruisers net?

When i bought my first sailboat I found Sail Maine's "how to" blog while researching some repairs. Soon after, I found some of his posts here researching other repairs. Cruiser Forum is now my go to location for beginning research. You can't beat the hundreds of years of practical experience shared here. My only pet peeve is when a question is asked and someone says "Google it". Well no ****, Google is available but the knowledge base here is unmatched IMHO, that's why we ask. I think some folks just get cranky and are full of themselves, just have to ignore that aspect of an otherwise invaluable resource. I also enjoy watching trolls at times, reading of others adventures, the classifieds, and joke threads. Thanks.

Did a Google search for the most recent Cruising World magazine, landed here by accident. Ended up liking it much better.

Poll: What initially brought you cruisers net?

I also found Cruisers Forum from a Google search for some boat project I was working on at the time (there have been so many I've forgotten which one). The answers I found on CF were so helpful that I stayed and joined. Thank you to all contributors.

Re: Poll: What initially brought you cruisers net?

2 stage answer. What brought me to CF is probably what brings most folks to any forum and that is a google search result. Any forum that has good traction like CF, has many results to on topic searches. What got me to join was the members.

Re: Poll: What initially brought you cruisers net?

Jim was interested, and I became interested, as well. Had plenty of time on my hands post surgeries.

We've been cruising a long time, helped out some other folks who wanted to cruise, too. Have received help, and wanted to put back into the community.

Re: Poll: What initially brought you cruisers net?

I was doing a Google search for heating systems for my boat as I was tired of freezing my butt off. Most searches lead me to heating threads on CF.

I also enjoy the social aspect, chit-chatting with nautical types.

I really get a lot of great technical advice on here- mostly from searching old threads rather than starting new ones. I've found useful information on electronics, heating, engine repairs, cooking ideas, illumination, pilotage, amongst others.

In return I try to provide information in areas I have knowledge- ship handling, navigation, general seamanship, maritime law, safety and security.

I also like it when people share pics that inspire me, like these ones I took just after sunrise this morning heading home in the Thousand Islands.
