Re: Poll: What initially brought you cruisers net?

Personally, I first started coming here to figure out... "how do I do X". Then, I found I like just chit chatting about various stuff and maybe helping someone else out. Really, I just come here to tell lies when I'm not at a bar telling made up sailing stories.

Just kidding... I dont lie.

Re: Poll: What initially brought you cruisers net?

I had a dream to leave the prairies and live on the ocean. Researching online for just about every aspect of that brought me here. I didn't join till I actually had a boat. Unfortunately I'm still in the prairies:-( but I still have the dream;-)

Re: Poll: What initially brought you cruisers net?

There was a link from a friends blog to CF. He was in a bit of a jam, sailing from Cali to Hawaii. His brother (in Hawaii) was asking questions from members here, and passing on suggestions to his brother via satphone. Here is the thread - Offshore Sailor Needs Advice

Fun times!

Because I'm tired of the rat race, it's nice to have a plan to get out of it, eventually.

Re: Poll: What initially brought you cruisers net?

I wanted to do all of the above as reasons for joining CF. And I wanted to show others how smart and experienced I am by mumbling on about stuff I am only vaguely familiar with. I am in good company here.

Actually, it has been a very useful site and I check it out daily. I am getting more selective in the threads I read and try to resist saying things that may not be 100% correct. I do appreciate the help that some give and I try to resist the urge to digitally throttle trolls and other bottom feeders who frequent the web. My goal is to not be one of those.

Re: Poll: What initially brought you cruisers net?

My interest is to access the wisdom and experience of others sailors, which can inform my own decisions and problem solving.... And to share with others some of the problems and experiences I have had... relating to sailing. My interest is primarily in the various technical aspects about sailing and boats as I am completely self taught!

Re: Poll: What initially brought you cruisers net?

I did a search for a boating problem. I don't remember specifically what the problem was. I was surprised about all the info available and liked the site. I registered right away and after a short time decided it was a good site to support.

Re: Poll: What initially brought you cruisers net?

Isn't it kind of telling given the number of newbies that post looking for acceptance of their plan that no one has voted for

"Seeking encouragement through fellowship."

Yes, that long wait for the next sailing season and this particular site (instead of other similar ones) because it seems to me it is the more international one with members from all over the world, with many to whom English is not their first language.

Re: Poll: What initially brought you cruisers net?

Came back from my last multi year voyage, missing it, searching online for sailing stuff. Thought maybe I could help a few other sailors with stuff I'd learned, and vice versa...
