Nightmare

Rented a boat in BVI not too long ago and from Captain Compass. The gps failed headed to Bitter Bay and BAM I hit rock. It was BAAAAAD. Boat taking on water, lost an engine. In the end I felt like I deserved it. I cheaped out and went with the budget operation and got a budget boat. Nevertheless, shelled out a pretty penny. That boat will never be the same again. Feel bad for the owner. But I guess they know what they get into. Boat not too good in first place.

Re: Nightmare

Why did the failure of the GPS cause you to run aground, I don't get that? You had no charts aboard at that point, or ability to take bearings, or a compass course to steer? Was it night, that you couldn't see well? Always best to bring a handheld GPS/VHF on charters. I'm just trying to understand...

Re: Nightmare

Charter companies don't allow sailing at night in BVI last time I was there.

Hmmm sounds like the onboard Mark 1 & Mark 2 Eyeballs fritzed out as well.
