Put it on the hard and fly to the Philippines for a few weeks. Best place to break a mended heart. So I've heard. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Dear Mark and Nic

There are no words other than the thought ….

……that you have both loved and lived as if reaching for the Moon

All the best!....Nick

HI Mark, My thoughts are with both of you, wherever you each go. I was reading Nicolle's inbox recently and marvelled how well you had seem to gel and create a perfect harmony. All the best to both of you. I am sure you both receive nothing but the best wishes from all members of CF who have enjoyed your Sea Life adventures to date. Fair winds.

You never know what the future may hold. My wife and I actually divorced for a year, but we kept working at things and we ended up getting remarried - we just had our 30th wedding anniversary. (well, minus our divorce year!)

In any case, best of luck - breakups can be tough.

Sorry to hear your news. But better to part with the possibility of a reunion, than to hang on to the bitter end and have the fall out that can bring.

What can I say. When our paths cross I'll shout you a drink... looks like it'd better be a Claytons...

Nah... Had we not bought our Bene and I continued to drag my (much) better half to sea in our old boat, I'd have been divorced years ago... which would have cost far more than the Beneteau. Mark will do fine...and as the old saw goes, "Absence makes the heart grow fonder" so who knows, eh?

FWIW...

Meeting forum people IRL can be a hit or miss affair. Meeting You & Nic in Singapore and hosting you for a couple of days was a bright spot in my year.

Pissing around the cans in my tiny boat was a blast and not a bit of condescension about me and my boat not being "cruiseworthy." Except the part when Nic noticed that I had a small winch handle - Ouch...

Like I said in your crew post, I wish I could quit my job and join you. I'd love to learn how to sail.

BTW - For all the ladies in the Single Sailor's Seeking thread - The appropriate number of days before sending Mark a PM is 6 1/2. (Gotta give Nic a fair chance to land and come to her senses - LOL)

When Nic kept saying she wanted a cat mark thought she was talking about a feline...

(PS - Now you will have to excuse me while I go dig up all Mark's posts about single handed sailors being... well I won't put it in Mark's words. Frank may ban me...)

Hm. Well, I sat for minutes on end and racked my brain cell for a funny response. Nothing. So, in line with the current trend, I sat for minutes on end and racked my brain cell for a rude response. Nope, still nothing.

You posted the request for crew on the same very day that we went to attach our forestay to our shiny new, double reinforced chainplate. After a few hours of hot slogging in humidity, I asked my Marc if he'd mind if I sailed across the Atlantic with that funny bloke from CF (He knew exactly who I meant for some reason). He said "Why not". A very different response from the one I got when I asked if I could sail down the the Canaries with the stranger who joined CF just to find crew for his 26' trimaran.

So anyway, I reeled off at least two reasons why not (fairly good ones, unfortunately), and hence I didn't apply for the post.

Anyway - the point is, he trusts you enough to approve of my joining you (which is irrelevant, since I can't) - having only ever read your posts on CF. You're clearly a decent bloke, and I'm sure it'll all pan out right for you in the end, just like everything always does. Eventually.

Good luck with the cruises, and hope the selection process works out - I'm sure you'll have thousands of fit young students to choose from. Hm. Maybe not - college starts soon.... Well, good luck anyway.

A very different response you would have got if he knew Nic wasn't around!

It would have been fun

Thanks for all the messages (and PMs!) and to Dan

and all.

Mark, did you change your mind about the TransAt? Your new info (spiffy avatar there, Your Highness) indicates you're located in Turkey again.
