Me and My Dinghy Outboard

Saw this little Honda 2.3hp outboard on ebay UK located where I kept my boat. As I wasn't close by, a friend checked it out for me and had it running fine in a large oil drum. With lady luck shining my way I then managed to buy myself an outboard unseen (and without a manual).

Fast forward to summer and I'm in the dinghy with the outboard attached and off we go, upwind just in case the little darling plays up - and it did cough and stop! Drifted and paddled back - at least it was summer!

Checked what I could and set off again the next day - same story twice that day! Just stopped after a few minutes.

So I took it in for a service and picked it up after a week and paid the PDS 85 - a label attached read "Ran without a problem for 15 minutes. Performed a service". Just before leaving the workshop I point to a lever on the side of my engine and ask for it's function as the writing had all but disappeared. "Oh, that's the fuel cut-off" - and yes, I'd always had it in the "off" position when the engine died.

So PDS 85 paid for the skipper's education!

Clean the carb then clean it again.the fuel probably gelled. This isn't spray some cleaner. It needs to be taken apart. Float removed and orifeces cleaned.
