I'm an Idiot and Lair

After years of being on CF, many threads and questions, 6000+ posts, 2+ years of research prior to starting sailing, 6 years sailing, and owning 2 boats, I finally today understand.

I'm an idiot and a lair!

I'm an idiot because I believe that the boat designers and builders know more about boats than I do so tend to take their word over internet posters. Somehow in spite of this I have not killed anyone or myself and have fewer boat problems than "normal" based on all the threads I've read.

I'm a lair because regardless of any true life experience I post about my boat someone always trashes both me and my boat telling me how wrong I am. Since I just say the facts of my experiences and it doesn't match the facts they want to believe, I must be a lair!

If only I had realized the truth long ago

I'm sure you're quite a good skipper of your yacht but you might brush up on your spelling.

They say that admitting it is the first step to recovery.

Re: I'm an idiot and lair

In Don defense :-)

I don't see any use in having a uniform and arbitrary way of spelling words. We might as well make all clothes alike and cook all dishes alike. Sameness is tiresome; variety is pleasing. I have a correspondent whose letters are always a refreshment to me, there is such a breezy unfettered originality about his orthography. He always spells Kow with a large K. Now that is just as good as to spell it with a small one. It is better. It gives the imagination a broader field, a wider scope. It suggests to the mind a grand, vague, impressive new kind of a cow.
- Mark Twain, speech at a spelling match, Hartford, Connecticut, May 12, 1875. Reported in the Hartford Courant, May 13, 1875

And Don, ya know this place just wouldn't be the same without you. Who would dispel ( no pun intended) all the trash about Hunters? Although, the early 80s hunters were a sight to behold.

Hiya Don! I wouldn't worry much about what people say about anyone's opinion. Whether someone likes an opinion or not, it really doesn't matter. After a year being on CF, I know most of the real techies on here; old salts who really know their stuff and are solid on experience. I could list them, but then, some might disagree with me...and then, I'll have to ignore them...again! Life is too short...sail away!

I've always thought of you more as a mythical, God-like figure since learning of your ability to turn the suns energy into cold beer.

Now... can you do something about these pesky mosquitos?

I feed them smashed flies since they always seem to show up together. Where do those f**kers come from when 20 miles from the nearest shore?
