Re: How Many Of You Want To Be Buried At Sea?

Saucy- you have a good plan, because if your body is accepted to Medical Autopsy, they will cremate you afterwards and give your family the ashes. Your spleen is next to the transverse process of the spine (unless you are different than most people) and you can fracture that off and puncture your spleen.
Oz- just go out of the 12 mile limit to the country of Australia. People bury people in international waters all the time.
I want the North Pacific- so violent and full of life. I think the entire human population could be placed in various trenches along the ocean floor and not be missed. We aren't that big as far as biomass is concerned. The mass of bugs outweighs us 100 to one. Now as long as one of my weights don't get caught in a crab trap....

Re: How Many Of You Want To Be Buried At Sea?

Donate all the working bits, the rest to medical research and then cremated and thrown to the winds, at sea. Alternatively in some stealthy place with me as the fertilizer at the root ball of a nice tree. Up in a national forest maybe. But at sea would be my first choice ; -)

My instructions pretty much say " I'm out of it at this point, please do what ever will ease your grief."

I view the fire as a cleansing and purifying element.

Choose your poison Sara- if you donate organs, they won't accept you for medical autopsy (Don't ask me how I know all this stuff, working at a medical school is not as fun as you think it might be...)

A friend of mine want to be burnt to ashes, put in a gallon of paint and spread on her husband bedroom ceiling. Kind of funny kind of not but hey to each their own. I want to be recycled. Only makes sense to me to be a part of the bigger picture and stop taking up space.

Re: How Many Of You Want To Be Buried At Sea?

Better put;

Donate to transplant if in good working order (healthy, intact)

Donate to medical research if otherwise

Straight to cremation if no one wants the meatsuit.

Then to sea. Or tree ; -)

Cremate me, put me in a floating container, then use me for man overboard drills at the local sailing school. Each miss will require the errant sailing student to purchase a 6-pack for the rest of the groups consumption.

Just toss the body overboard and that's that. I would be very glad if the area is infested with sharks.

Count me in.

Re: How Many Of You Want To Be Buried At Sea?

I am having a burial bag made up with weight pockets to overcome the whole bloating/floating thing, if given the chance and I feel my time is near, I'll climb into the bag, then I'll rig up a dead man switch so that when I die it will release the anchor and yank me overboard so I can feed the fishes that I have spent my life pursueing. Of course that is if everything goes to plan, if not give me a Viking Burial.

Such a better way to go. Isnt it? Knowing I would be back in the food chain is so much better than knowing I would be underground in "untouchable" ground or simply added to to greenhouse gases.

Re: How Many Of You Want To Be Buried At Sea?

A few decades ago a fellow in our town - let's call him Burt - wanted his ashes spread over the ocean. Only he wanted them really spread - from the air. On the appointed day, Burt's friends gathered their boats in a small flotilla about 1/2 mile outside the harbor. The airplane came in low, and as it approached the flotilla the co-pilot removed the cover from the urn, opened the cabin door, and leaned to hold the urn into the slipstream. Swoosh! Burt's ashes exploded into a maelstrom, some of him escaping out the door but much of him rushing back into the cockpit and swirling about every which way. The pilot and crew sheepishly flew back to the airport and vacuumed Burt from the aircraft's upholstery while the mourners on the boats said their prayers, none the wiser.
