Notice, no one's questioned why you're secretive about the where and what is this boat? Not interested in the where, or the how much, but what boat are we talking about?
Actually, someone did, about two pages ago:

"Julie, all these cute emoticons and practice at being a novelist is fun to watch, yet let's now separate the wheat from the chaff, shall we? My crystal ball is now beginning to inform me that you are merely worried about personal finances. Am I getting close? When you stated "something less", I suddenly realized that you might be less concerned about needed refitting as you are about whether you can even afford the boat. Eyes bigger than the stomach, perhaps? It happens to all of us, sometimes. I'm guessing that what you are trying to say is this: "I really drool over that used 70' Hinckley sloop that's been sitting for 3 years, when my budget tells me to stay closer to a new Hunter."

As Señor Ex-Calif alluded to, why not just cut to the chase and tell us what the boat is and the asking price, photos included?

That someone, was me.

Jeez.... if it's that close of a decision, flip a coin. If you don't like the results of the coin toss you know your true feelings. I did that when I was trying to decide whether I should rob a bank to fund my sailing. Only got two more years of my sentence to go.

I thought this was a boat forum, not a psych forum..

If you want to know how to forget about something,
you must simply replace it with something else to think about.

haha! Good one!

As for the bank job, you needed four coin tosses, not one. One to decide whether of not to do the heist, one to decide whether Monday would be the best day, one to decide whether a fake 'stash or nylons over the head is the best disguise, and one to decide whether you will prefer general population or a private cell.

Since you have Net access, must not be too bad a place. Please honk a reply in a couple years when I wave to you in the harbor.

My wife just came into the room and asked me why I'm sitting here all alone in front of the computer, and laughing.

I hope this thread goes for at least another 20 pages.

The "S. S. Guano"!

She's a stunner. How did I know that this photo was coming?

Re: How Do You Let Go?

I really would like to know what vessel your in conflict over....

Me and several dozen others.

Then we can adjust out high moral ground stance and mock individually or collectively whilst others support you grandly.......

It is our duty as C.Fers.......

So we go through the mental machinations where the emotional side of us works hard to convince the logical side of us we both NEED this.

My question to those reading this thread, when you were faced with the two sides battling it out, how did that go?
Now that I'm more clear on what it is you're looking for, I will say that we faced this same decision last year and we bought the boat. Do we regret it....not really. Would we do it again the same way....I don't think so. The only reason we don't regret it is because this boat is to us what you say that boat is to you. It's our love affair boat. But....I think in hindsight I might have been able to fall in love with another because, as much as we love working on boats, I am ready to be sailing.

However, I signed on for this of my own free will knowing what I was in for because for us, Ms. Emotional was the stronger contender. So....my only advice is to do whatever it takes to make sure you know exactly what it is you're in for before the bell sounds for the next round. And if you're not up for what you might be faced with if Ms. Emotional wins, then by all means, throw in the towel.

The nice thing about getting a little older is that patience becomes paramount and we can wait for the answer.

The bad thing about getting a little older is that when we find out the answer, we cant remember the question or why it was important in the first place.

$2.
