Re: How do you answer the question "Where are you from?"

Get asked that quite a bit:
My answer is usually: I am Made in Norway, but now in live in Florida. Or St.Thomas, or Alaska or Kuwait, whatever.
Guess I travel too much, always get asked where I am from.
(Usually from beautiful women trying to strike up a conversation so as to invite me home, or at least give me their phone number and a "pleas call". )

Re: How do you answer the question "Where are you from?"

Yeah, well....

Usually just say "Austria".

Typically that requires the follow up: "No, no. That's the other place. We don't have Kangaroos." <and smile>

Might add: "Well, the two we did have escaped from the zoo - last seen heading for the Swiss border."

Definition... HOME: It's where you've managed to establish the lowest tax liability.

Sold the house; sold the car; sold the kids. Sea Gypsies we are, we are.

Re: How do you answer the question "Where are you from?"

LOL I lie about where I'm from, too embarrasing to actually tell people! I only lived there as an infant for a few months. Where we moved to after that was a little better but not much. Then in '76 came to the good land.
I am a Canadian born abroad. All I tell people unless they have a good reason for knowing.

Re: How do you answer the question "Where are you from?"

I grew up in W. Texas, born in Iowa, went to school and worked in Colorado, Army in Germany, lived in Florida, Connecticut, Illinois, and now Washington (state). But when overseas on the boat - I'm from the US. If they ask further I would now say from Washington, but lived in Colorado for years. But depending on the situation, I'll say "we live on our sailboat which is currently at xyz port".

We had two different boat cards - one with contact info like email addys, radio callsign, boat name, blog addy, cell, etc., and one with just our names and the boat name, hailing port, without contact info (that we could add as needed). Usually we never put our mailing address on either but would write it in if needed.

Then, there is the issue of "official address", which is a whole other can of worms. That can be very tricky indeed.

Re: How do you answer the question "Where are you from?"

Simple. Either;
A) The Ocean
B) Write down the latitude & longitude on a cocktail napkin for them of "C" or your Fav spot period (not necessarily on the ocean, such as a certain meadow in Yosemite, etc.)
C) My (your) favorite port (or harbor) on earth... not a tough choice for me
