Eric, if you think your mind is blown anticipating it, wait till you've experienced it. Leaving from the PV area, it is usually a slow first week for folks. We left from Cabo the two times we did it. The boat was a 36 footer with a 29 ft. waterline. Took about 3 wks, IIRC.

What others have written is true. You'll structure your watch time and child care time, and the days and hours will flow together. Had friends who tried to learn French from language tapes on their way there. Did pretty well, too, enough to get by. Just think, nobody to tell you what to do, just you guys, the sun, stars, breeze and seas. Way good.

Take a long book. Lol very long.

The long passages are very enjoyable, one really relaxes and gets into it.

With the provisioning its nice to have some treats packed away for the last half. The best menu can tend to get a little boring after a while so extra naughty food is always welcome.

Of the many books onboard, probably my favorite was a 1,300+ page tome about Sacajawea. Took me about Morro Bay-Honolulu to read it. I'm not a slow reader but on a passage what's the hurry? No where more than the sea invites one to go with the flow.

That is the point, I've always considered a passage of one daily routine repeated as many times as it takes to make landfall. This as opposed to each day being a new thing. Sure, each day will bring new sights and experiences but it is, mostly, a repeat of the day before.

G'Day Eric,

Our first landfall at Atuona was the second greatest high of all our sailing years (the first being landfall on Oahu after our first bluewater passage using celestial nav). Somehow, the change from the arid reaches of Baja to the lush growth of the Marquesas, the long (21 day) passage and the realization that we were, at last, really in the South Pacific (thanks, James Mitchner!) combined to give me an emotional jolt seldom experienced.

I'll bet that you and Charlotte and the younguns will find a similar experience awaiting you. Enjoy!

make sure you have some "skin so soft" or equivalent for the sand flies in the marquesas,can be a bit of a bother onshore sometimes.

Congrats and Fair Winds Eric,

We did the passage from Cape Town to Rio with our the. 3 year old.

It was an amazing experience the the kids will be the least of your worries - they are so adaptable.

Enjoy this wonderful passage - the last days will be filled with both excitemnt and remorse that you have almost arrived!
