Compared to the Chandler wobble, that's negligible. (9m over 433 days)

And is similar in size to the constant continental drift of the main tectonic plates.

Re: Dont tell anyone, but I think the earth is flat.

I am disturbed that this forum should succumb to using doggy tales to deal with such an important matter. Consider this ...

According to Albert E. the equator is actually shrinking due to the effect of the Lorentz- Fitzgerald contraction equation (i.e relative to higher or lower latitudes). This means that if you view the equator from, say, the north pole, then the equator has - apparently only - shrunk. But only if you counter rotate east to west to retain the required inertial frame. Clearly this means that a polar observer sees the sphere as flatish. Quod esse demonstrandum. Really quite simple. It’s all relative.
However, due to the precession of the supposed terrestrial axis and the gentle movement of the elliptical orbit major axis, the true shape is not precisely flat. For further rational dissertation, tune into Donald.

Fun Fact: The "real" MAGNETIC south pole is close (~800 km) to the north pole, because in a dipole magnet opposite sides attract.

Then how do you explain being able to see Moscow from Wasilla Alaska?

Does that help?

This is why sailing exists. They wanted to see what was out there. The people of the world have only thought the world was round for a mere 500 years.

The great seaman, Joseph Slocum, argued this with African government at the turn of the twentieth century.

It's still unproven and up for debate.

And it beats talking about baseball.

Because the nonsense forum is full of people discussing sailing?

Re: Dont tell anyone, but I think the earth is flat.

I think the earth is definitely flat and that the real question is what shape it is?

Foe example if it was circular with the north pole at the centre, say somewhere in western Asia, and the south pole equally distributed around the circumference Columbus would only have needed a relatively small compass error to have sailed around in a big circle and run into North America about half way.

Works for me.

Tides are proof that something they told us is a lie. And the lies keep stacking up...

If you've ever seen a full moon in the day time, while the sun is still up, ask yourself this.
Gee oddly the big ball of fire in sky also effects tides. The moon does not fly over at all. The earth rotates once in 24 hours while the moons orbit progresses about 15 ish degrees in 24 hours.

The moon is full when the sun is 180 degrees out of orbit from the moon. This happens at sunset to sunrise a few days a month. During mid day the moon is not lit by the sun as the tide locked side facing the earth is pointed away from the sun.

Now a more serious question is what type of cheese is the moon made of. Personally I'm hoping gouda. But it's open to discussion.
