Brain failure

So after laying awake all night trying to remember if I did or I didn't I've resigned myself to getting up early for the two hour round trip drive to the boat to convince myself I really did flip the bilge pump switch from manual back to auto.

Don't remember hearing it running. Also don't remember switching it back.

Sad thing is that I'm nearly certain the when I get there I will find all is as it should be....but until I put eyeballs on it....

So after lying awake last night...........I drove down to the airport to make sure the propane space heater in the hangar was shut off. It was. Good thing only 1 mile away.

Half way home "did I lock the door on the hangar" turn around and drive back. Yep its all locked up. That's what makes us good pilots and good sailors. Always double checking, at least that's what I keep telling myself.

But don't good pilots use a check list?

I certainly needed one (actually more than one) when I was doing a lot of technical diving and plan to make a couple for when I'm back in the water with the boat.

Sadly I was correct. Bilge pump left on so worth the two hot drive. Thank god for a big house bank!

My previous boat had a pretty load pump so hard to miss. The new bot bilge is mucho the soun insulated so can't hear it running. Time to add that to the closin up the boat checklist.

Drove an hour out to the boat only to realise I forgot the key to the padlock. Bolt cutters under the seat to the truck work fine...

That's why all my boat locks are combination and not key!

That's great if one has a spare lock at hand. Otherwise how to lock everything up?

Zip tied the cut one in place so it looked locked. No trouble for over 2 weeks before I replaced it.

This time of the year I have to ask myself the same questions whether goin to/or coming from the boat: where's the ladder?

So, reward yourself by sitting in the cockpit with a cold beer or hot cuppa joe and dreaming over seasons past or those to come and planning the tweaks that will improve life afloat.

In a few weeks my wife will be away for the weekend for work. That means I get to spend as long as I want working on the winter project list.

Recipe

1 six pack
1 tool box c/w tools
1 generator
2 electric space heaters
1 iPod full of music
Assorted parts and pieces from defender as required

Mix slowly over a weekend until progress is evident. Finish with wander down to the docks for motivation.

Sounds like a damn fine winter weekend to me!
